Software Overview

The objective of developing a programmable Digital Power Supply (DPS) is simplicity in operation and programming of the device.  Magtorx programmable DPS is equipped with a powerful microprocessor that is designed to perform in a certain way.  A List of Commands & Programming Examples is available for programmers that can be used for creating programs on a variety of development software. Therefore, anybody can create and execute a program.  Users can write their own programs in LabView®, MatLab®, Visual C++®, Visual Basic® or even Hyper Terminal - see the Programming Examples. The RS-232 Serial Communications is simple and can be run at baud rates of up to 19200 bps while the program runs from a PC.  Excellent advantage of Magtorx DPS devices is that the user can save a developed program to a DPS microprocessor and run it directly from the DPS.

Note:  Magtorx is not a software development company.  However, we will be soon supplying the software for different applications.  We also encourage others to post their software ideas that they developed for DPS applications, so we can place it on our website for free distribution.  Therefore, more users can take advantage of free application programs.

The following software are offered to our Customers:

The DPS Control Software

MP - Matching Performance and Control Software

Performance Test Program Software

Torque/Force Manual Control Program Software

The DPS Control Software

The DPS Control Software is designed for operations of Magtorx programmable Digital Power Supplies (DPS).  The software has three program modules that allow programming of any enviable operational sequence of the performed test cycle, execution of the design test program, or simply manual-remote operation of the DPS device.

Built-in Modules:

DPS - Manual Control Module

DPS - Data Insertion Module

DPS - Auto Control Module

                                                                                                        DPS - Manual Control Module

This DPS - Manual Control software module allows for controlling of the Digital Power Supply (DPS) device and displaying the applied Current and Control Signal on chart graphs.  The screen shows the front panel of the DPS similar to the front panel of a real Magtorx DPS device.

                                                                                                        DPS - Data Insertion Module

The DPS - Data Insertion software module allows for inserting data, Control Voltage - Time values, into the data table which can be saved to a text (.txt) file.  The data can be directly transferred to the DPS processor and later used for an automatic repetitive run.  This is useful for the “Life Test” application.  Several hundred data points can be selected to create the desired Current-Time curve profile.

                                                                                                          DPS - Auto Control Module

The DPS - Auto Control software module allows for execution of data saved to a file. The software allows for Auto Run or Semi-Auto Run operation.  Auto Run allows for continuous repetitive run until the program is stopped.  When the “STOP” pushbutton is pressed, the program will be recessed.  Pressing the “RUN” pushbutton again will restart the program from the beginning of the cycle.  This program is useful for any type of  “Life Test” application.

MP - Matching Performance and Control Software

The MP – Matching Performance and Control software is designed for operation in conjunction with a Motorized Dynamometer which executes the evaluation of the tested device performance in its entire range.  For instance, measuring the torque of an electromagnetic brake or clutch.  After performance data is collected and saved to file, the data is analyzed by the Matching Performance Test software and electronically matched to the desired “common” performance of the other matched devices (see matching).  The new “matched” data is then generated and saved to a text file or saved directly to the processor of the programmable DPS device.  A third software module (Performance Test - Matched Devices) is used for verification of the “matched” data.

Built-in Modules:

Performance Test - Non-Matched Devices

Matching Performance Test

Performance Test - Matched Devices

Performance Test - Non-Matched Devices

Performance Test - Non-Matched Devices - this software module allows for collecting electromagnetic brake or clutch performance data and saving it in the form of a text file. The software is utilized in conjunction with a Magtorx Motorized Dynamometer which is capable of rotating a brake or clutch. Gradually apply the current to the device coil and measure the torque from “0” up to the saturation level.

Matching Performance Test

Matching Performance Test - this is the most important module that calibrates the programmable DPS to work in combination with the unique torque-generating device that its performance has been previously tested and data collected. This data is now used for an “electronic alteration” of the specific DPS-Load system that will work together.

Performance Test – Matched Devices

Performance Test - Matched Devices - this module software is designed to verify the calibration of the programmable DPS that was matched (as a pair) with a particular electromagnetic brake or clutch. Previously generated data by the Matching Performance Test module is now tested - verifying that the “electronic alteration” of the specific DPS-Load system works correctly. This software has also ability to compare (before-and-after) “matched” with “non-matched” curve of the same torque-generating device.

Performance Graph

This is the Performance Graph screen that comes into view after data is saved to the file in the Performance Test - Non-Matched Devices module and in the Performance Test – Matched Devices module. The Graph screen appears after all test are completed. The purpose of this screen is that all performance curves can be seen at a same time. Up to twelve graphs can be seen at once.

Performance Test Program Software

Performance Test Program Software allows for collecting data of the brake or clutch performance and saving it in form of text file. The software is designed for the operation in conjunction with Magtorx Motorized Dynamometer that executes and evaluates the tested device performance in its entire range. The Motorized Dynamometer rotates the device such as electromagnetic brake or clutch, gradually applying the current to the device coil and measuring the torque from “0” up to the saturation level and back, from saturation to “0”. The collected data is useful for the evaluation of the individual brake or clutch’s general capabilities and rated manufacturer values such as rated torque and rated current (or voltage).

Break/Clutch Performance Test Program

Break/Clutch Performance Test Program - this software module allows for collecting data of the brake or clutch performance and saving it in form of text file. The software is utilized in conjunction with Motorized Dynamometer that is capable to rotate the device such as electromagnetic brake or clutch, gradually applying the current to the device coil and measuring the torque from “0” up to the saturation level and back, from saturation to “0”. The live graph displays the hysteresis torque performance curve.

The collected data is useful for the evaluation of the individual brake or clutch’s general capabilities and rated manufacturer values such as rated torque and rated current (or voltage).

Torque/Force – Manual Control Program

Torque/Force Manual Control Program software allows for collecting data of applied Torque and Force (tensile or compression).  The software is designed to operate in conjunction with Magtorx's Motorized Dynamometer and  Force Gauge that executes test and evaluates tested device performance.  The Motorized Dynamometer rotates the brake or clutch gradually, applying current to the coil and measuring Torque or Force by means of calibrated strain gauge.  The collected data is useful for the evaluation of the individual brake or clutch general capabilities and rated manufacturer values such as rated torque and rated current (or voltage).  The Force Gauge is utilized for testing the product endurance such as applied force on the implantable screws, dental and PC board drills, medical leads, medical wire cable, wire rope, single wire, beam and other applications.

                                                                                                        Current-Voltage-Torque –Manual Control

The Current-Voltage-Torque – Manual Control program module is used to read and display the tested device data in the form of a chart.  The software is utilized in conjunction with a Motorized Dynamometer.  There is also a digital representation of the test Current in progress, Control Signal, the live display of Torque and test duration time in seconds.
